Buzznaut, Dr Kelsey and Amber (Yancey) get their portrait taken in the infrared. How cool is it to have a photo in a type of light we can't even see with our eyes?! Technology rocks.

Howdy! I’m Buzznaut and I am the 2010 Yancey mascot. I had a very busy semester at Yancey and I got to travel a lot and still be a part of the activities in Esmont. I spent so much time with the graduate students, that I got excited about optical astronomy. I want to be a part of the new large telescopes because they use some of the most advanced technology in the world. One day, I will.

Aspiration: to build a 30-meter telescope
Favorite DSBK Lesson: Family Observing
Favorite Constellation: Telescopium This is a constellation in the southern hemisphere that was created in honor of the telescope.
Favorite Galaxy: Abell_1689; Why stop with one galaxy when you can have a cluster? This galaxy cluster is directly in front of the most distant known galaxy. We can see light from this distant galaxy because it is bent slightly by the mass of the cluster. This is called a gravitational lens and it gives us a view of parts of the Universe that we would never be able to see with out it.
One thing I bet you didn’t know: I experiment with spicy food in my kitchen when I have time. I love chilies from the Southwest.
